Moclín is the setting for one of Andalusia's most traditional religious celebrations: the Pilgrimage of Christ of the Cloth on October 5th.

The Christ is not a sculpture, but a large canvas that was gifted to the town of Moclín by the Catholic Monarchs themselves in the 15th century. Its name, like its fame and popularity, dates back a century later, when it was credited with the miraculous healing of a sacristan who had almost lost his sight due to cataracts. This condition was formerly known as "the disease of the cloth," and one day the sacristan regained his sight while cleaning the canvas.
